Bullard Black Face Incident
“True peace is not merely the absence of tension, it is the presence of justice” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr
National Network In Action civil rights leader Rev. Dr Floyd D. Harris Jr will be holding a press conference at Buchanan High School regarding the lack of accountability both Bullard High School and FUSD has taken in regards to a cheerleader posing in black face while repeatedly using the word nigga. The same students was also filmed using the word on campus. Superintendent Bob Nelson stated that the young white student would receive consequences, and Bullard parents, along with the cheerleaders and coaches, voted to have the cheerleader in question off the team, but instead, further injustice has taken place.

Since the incident, several Black parents have removed their children from Bullard, and placed them at other schools, or are homeschooling them. The mothers have been threatened, one parent’s house was broken into, and the children who remain on the Bullard cheer team have been subject to being bullied by the perpetrator, and those protecting her. This has created a hostile environment for Black students at Bullard. A protest is being held at the Bullard and Buchanan game this Friday, August 30, 2019 beginning at 6:00pm to show our solidarity and support of the Black students, and cheerleaders at Bullard who have been affected by the acts of this student. This protest is also taking place to express the Black community’s grievance with Bullard and FUSD for not removing the cheerleader who chose to use a historically racist gesture and word and spread it to fellow students at Bullard.
