When I announced my campaign last week, I spoke about what we as progressives in California believe. I promised to tell you what I believe, stand true to those beliefs, and fight to instill those beliefs into policy in Washington. That starts today. Right here.
I believe we need to make healthcare a right for all people.
I believe it should not just be for the privileged and wealthy.
I believe we need Medicare for All.
And in the U.S. Senate I will immediately sign on as a co-sponsor.

Growing up, I saw how insecure life can be without access to healthcare. Too many Californians must choose between feeding their family, or paying for a prescription. Or affording a co-pay, or a pair of shoes for school. We are the greatest and wealthiest nation on Earth, but our healthcare system is broken and too often leaves those who need care the most with none at all.
It cannot be that way any longer.
I was so proud when the California Senate passed a comprehensive single-payer measure, Senate Bill 562, which would guarantee high-quality healthcare for every Californian. Once again, our state is leading the way and serving as an example for how progressive values become policy.
