Today, I’m headed to the Democratic National Committee’s Summer Meeting to present on election cybersecurity and to discuss the threats we’re seeing now as we’re just 75 days from the midterm elections.
Democrats are taking election security seriously while Republicans in Congress continue to drag their feet and fail to address the very real threats we face. Instead adopting common sense measures and investing seriously in election security, they continue their voter suppression ways. Republicans have put their pursuit of political power ahead of our defending our democracy.
As Chair of our association, I can assure you that Democratic Secretaries of State across the country are working hard to ensure that our elections are both accessible and secure. But we need your help in this effort.
Here’s the GOP recent track record on election security:
Trump has yet to clearly and unequivocally acknowledge Russian interference in the 2016 elections, let alone hold Russia accountable for their actions;
In the last few weeks, Republicans in both the Senate and the House voted down proposals to continue cybersecurity grants to states; and
Senate Republicans delayed yet again consideration of the Secure Elections Act, a bipartisan measure that would call for the use of paper ballots and post-election audits of federal elections.
Republicans simply aren’t acting to better secure our elections. We need to elect more Democrats as Secretaries of State this November.
