United States Senator Kamala D. Harris Endorses Congressman Jim Costa

Praises Costa’s partnership and work on water and healthcare

Delivering a powerful endorsement in the race for the 16th Congressional District, United States Senator Kamala D. Harris is making a clear case that Jim Costa has the experience to continue delivering for the Central Valley’s farmers and families.

Senator Harris said: “Jim has been a reliable partner and I have seen, up close, his work for the Central Valley’s residents, to ensure they have clean and reliable water and affordable and accessible health care. I look forward to continue to work with him to ensure the voices of farmers and producers in the Central Valley and across the country are uplifted and heard.”

Senator Harris is the first African-American US Senator in California’s history. As the daughter of immigrants from India and Jamaica, she is also the first Indian-American, the first biracial woman and the second African-American to ever serve in the US Senate. Prior to being elected to the US Senate, she served as California’s Attorney General.

“I am honored to receive such strong support from a colleague whom I have always respected and admired, US Senator Kamala Harris,” said Congressman Costa. “The challenges we face are as numerous as they are unprecedented, and will require leadership, tenacity and experience. I look forward to working with Senator Harris and others to ensure we protect the rights of historically marginalized and underserved communities, as well as our shared Democratic values.”

Jim Costa represents California’s 16th Congressional District, which includes portions of Fresno, Madera and Merced Counties. He was re-elected to Congress in November 2018 by a decisive 15% margin over his opponent. During his service in Congress, Costa has delivered over $290 million in funding for water improvements, over $300 million for veterans’ services, expanded access to higher education, and improved access to healthcare.
