Dear Parks Supporters,

We hope your year is off to a great start! We are reaching out to say hello, and to also give you an update on parks-related news that has occurred in the past month.

As you may have heard, a recent Supreme Court decision in the state of California has put into question the two-thirds passage requirement for citizen-led measures like Measure P. Based on the outcome of this litigation and the fact that 52% of voters approved Measure P, our partners at Fresno Building Healthy Communities have submitted a request to Mayor Lee Brand to declare Measure P approved.

Fresno Building Healthy Communities was instrumental in the ‘Yes On P’ campaign and has been a leading voice for Fresno’s parks and youth for many years. Our campaign has not taken its own legal action at this time, but we understand the importance of seeking clarification from the courts on citizen-led ballot initiatives and encourage all Measure P supporters to stay informed on this legal challenge.

For more information on the recent court decision and its connection to Measure P, click here to read today’s Fresno Bee’s article. Fresno Building Healthy Communities is planning an event next week to rally support – please visit their Web site and social media feeds for up-to-date information on this cause.

We also want to take a moment to honor the life and legacy of David McDonald, a true community champion and our campaign’s largest donor. A ‘Celebration of Life’ service was held yesterday at William Saroyan Theater and we are grateful to those of you who attended. As you know, David spent his final months dedicated to improving Fresno’s deteriorating parks, and we will be forever inspired by his leadership and vision.

Please continue to share your passion for local parks with your networks and help us grow this diverse, dedicated coalition.
