The more zeroes, the better

Here’s a glimpse behind the curtain that a lot of other campaigns don’t want you to see:

On a long weekend like this one, candidates scoop money from mega-wealthy donors. They shuttle around to barbecues in the Hamptons and swanky dinners in Los Angeles — all behind closed doors.

And what do you need to do to get inside and have special access to a presidential candidate? Write a big, big, check. (Tip: the more zeroes, the better.)

You won’t see that on this campaign. Elizabeth doesn’t devote any time in her schedule just for big donors. We all own an equal piece of this campaign no matter the amount we can contribute. Can you chip in to our campaign and help grow our movement to get big money out of politics?

This weekend, Elizabeth is heading back to Iowa — not to court rich donors and pick up big checks, but to attend house parties and host organizing meetings that are open to the public.

That’s because if we want to make big, structural change in this country, we need to spend time talking face to face with people all across the country to grow a movement big enough to win.

Here’s the catch: Campaigns are expensive. By swearing off private fundraisers with wealthy donors, we’re leaving money on the table.
