Last month, I was proud to join my colleagues in Congress in passing the Equality Act to protect LGBTQ+ Americans from discrimination in housing, the workplace, and in public accommodations.
This was a huge step forward in the fight for equal rights, but the unfortunate truth is we have a Senate Leader and President who have done nothing but attack the LGBTQ+ community. We’ve seen them:
– Allow doctors to refuse treating LGBTQ+ patients
– Ban transgender Americans from serving in our armed forces
– Allow adoption agencies to refuse LGBTQ+ families
Add to that the fact that discrimination against LGBTQ+ Americans is still legal in 30 states, and you’ll understand why this legislation is so sorely needed.
Despite the political roadblocks we know are ahead of us, it’s incumbent on each and every one of us to stand strong to get this legislation passed. It’s the right thing to do — plain and simple.
Thanks for stepping up,
