Stephen, outraged by the violence being perpetrated by the U.S. government against people fleeing persecution, a group of mothers and volunteers dedicated to human rights came together to form Lights for Liberty: A Vigil to End Human Concentration Camps.

Thanks to their efforts, there are more than 500 events planned to protest the inhumane conditions faced by migrants, many of them children. Participants will gather on Friday, July 12 at detention centers, in parks, outside local government offices, and at faith centers — both in the U.S and globally.

For more information about Friday’s events, click this link. You will see a list of states (and countries), in alphabetical order, with links to the local events in that state. Scroll down and find the one closest to you.

Can’t attend? Chip in $3 to organizations providing advocacy and resources for migrants on the U.S.-Mexico border.

“The Trump administration’s immigration policies and detention camps meet the United Nations’ definition of genocide and crimes against humanity,” said Elizabeth Cronise McLaughlin, lawyer, activist and organizer. “Congress is refusing to stop the president and his policies. We cannot allow these atrocities to be perpetrated in our name.”

“Now is the time for every person to stand up and say, ‘We will not accept this!’ No more hesitating. No more denial. No more fear. We need to be bold, and loud, and unrelenting. That’s the only way we can stop this,” said Kristin Mink, activist and organizer.

Our country’s treatment of migrants is unconscionable, and it is being done in our name. Help make it clear to Donald Trump and Congress that we won’t be silent in the face of this abuse. On Friday, July 12, Please join an event near you.
