I am honored to announce that last weekend the California Teachers Association (CTA), which represents over 325,000 teachers in California, voted to endorse me for State Superintendent of Public Instruction.
With the endorsements of CTA and also the California Federation of Teachers, I am humbled to have the support of California’s teachers and classified staff, who witness everyday the successes and challenges that our students experience in schools. I stand with our educators to support solutions that increase California’s investment in public education, promote equity, and aim to close the achievement gap.

Protecting public education is more important than ever. Donald Trump and Betsy DeVos are determined to undermine our public schools by creating vouchers and other tricky ways to divert money away from public education. As State Superintendent of Public Instruction, I will oppose vouchers and restore funding for public education.
We have an opportunity in California to prepare our students for a 21st-century economy. By investing in STEM education, early education programs, great teacher training, and more, we’ll make California #1 in the nation for public education.
