Kamala Harris

Fresno County —

Together we mourn the loss of life and denounce the horrifying violence we saw in Charlottesville yesterday by a cowardly group of white supremacists protesting the removal of a Confederate statue.

Now is a time in our country where we must make clear that our unity is our strength, our diversity is our power, and that we will never stop fighting to build a more perfect union that is just and equal for everyone.

Make no mistake: all of us have a responsibility to speak out against the hatred and bigotry perpetrated by these white supremacists.

That’s why organizations like MoveOn and Indivisible are hosting non-violent vigils across the country to stand in solidarity with the people of Charlottesville and to make clear that racism, white supremacy, violence, and hate will not defeat love, justice, equality, and tolerance.

Not on our watch. Can you attend a vigil today in your community?

If you can’t attend an event today, try to do something in your life that will make a difference in advancing the cause of justice and equality.

Talk to your neighbors, your family, and your friends. Create a dialogue about what’s happening in our country and what we can do about it. Acknowledge where there are injustices in your community and organize together to reform the system and fix them.

Take action and do something important. Don’t give in to, as Martin Luther King, Jr. would say, “the appalling silence of good people.”

Stay strong, united, and active. Thank you.

Team Kamala
