Fresno County, I wrote a year ago today about Trump’s immoral Muslim Ban and why now is not the time to sit on the sidelines and wait for someone else to defend our values.
I asked you to join me and stand up, just as Americans have done in generations past, to fight for justice and equality for all people.
And you did: tens of thousands of Americans poured into the streets and at our airports to protest Trump’s attack on immigrants and refugees that weekend. It was the beginning of a resistance that would stop the Republicans from repealing the Affordable Care Act and defunding Planned Parenthood, fight back against Trump’s attempt to ban transgender Americans from serving in the military, ensured that every single attempt to defund Planned Parenthood in Congress failed, and won huge electoral victories from Alabama to California to Virginia and everywhere in between.
With the election just under 10 months away, we can’t afford to slow down on fighting back and building a movement that can take back our country. So I promise you this: no matter what happens, Fresno County, I’m going to continue to fight this reckless Administration’s agenda in Washington and help progressive Democrats take Congress back in November. And I need to know if you’re with me:
Turning our backs on millions of refugees was a dark moment in American history, but one we have the power to undo if enough of us stand up in 2018 to end the bigoted policies of the Trump Administration. Never forget that you have a powerful voice at a moment in time when millions of people need to know they are not alone in this fight. Stand up and make sure no one in this country has to fight alone.
Thanks for all you do,
Kamala Harris
U.S. Senator, California
