Julián Castro Keynote Speaker for Fresno Democrats Event

U.S. Presidential candidate Julián Castro, who was Secretary of Housing and Urban Development in the Obama administration, will be the keynote speaker at the Fresno County Democratic Party’s May 3 fund-raiser.

“We are thrilled to host a Presidential candidate in the Central Valley. Julián Castro has an impressive resume and a track record of public service,” says Michael D. Evans, chair of the Fresno County Democratic Party.

“As we think about the future of our country and the party, Fresno County Democrats are leading a new era of politics,” Evans adds. “The results in the 2018 election are just the start of the kind of impact this county can have on the country.”

“Blue Wave: Our Future” is the theme for the Fresno County Democratic Party’s ninth annual fund-raiser. This year’s honorees are newly elected Democrats¾Rep. TJ Cox, State Senators Anna Caballero and Melissa Hurtado, State Center Community College District Trustees Magdalena Gomez and Annalisa Perea, Fresno County Board of Education Trustees Kimberly Tapscott-Munson and Daren Miller, Fresno City Council Members Miguel Arias and Nelson Esparza, Fresno Unified School District Trustees Veva Islas and Keisha Thomas, and Firebaugh-Las Deltas Unified School District Trustee Eliseo Gamino. Also being recognized are longtime activist Jan Sanger for lifetime achievement, 2018 Congressional District 22 candidate Andrew Janz as the Democrat of the Year and Kingsburg City Council Member Jewel Hurtado as the party’s rising star.

Julián Castro has spent the past several years traveling across the nation talking to Americans about the nation’s future. He has found that Americans from all walks of life want the same thing: “to do right by our families and have the promise of America fulfilled.”

“We can promise young people that college doesn’t have to equal a future of crushing debt,” Castro states. “We can promise our seniors that they can count on a life of dignity. We can promise our veterans that they’ll be respected and honored when they come home. We can promise people of color that they are safe and promise immigrants that they are welcomed.

“I’m running for President because I believe that if we work together, we can make—and keep—that promise to every American and work towards a future for all of us.”

“Julian Castro is a fresh voice who recognizes the importance of the Central Valley now and in the future,” said Marsha Conant, president of the Fresno Stonewall Democrats. “A new generation of voters has emerged in the last election, and we are excited to see the energy continue in 2020.”

The Fresno County Democratic Party fund-raiser will be held on May 3 at 5:30 p.m. at Pardini’s (2257 W. Shaw Ave.) in Fresno. For more information, including sponsorships and tickets, contact the Fresno County Democratic Party at 559-495-0606 or fresnocountydemocrats@yahoo.com.
