Hi, it’s Kristen

Hi there, I wanted to introduce myself.

I’m Kristen Orthman, Elizabeth’s Communications Director.

I’m grateful that I’ve gotten to be on this team for the past two years. I love Massachusetts — I grew up in West Roxbury and graduated from Boston Public Schools — and every day, I get to see how Elizabeth fights for Massachusetts families.

As a spokeswoman for our campaign, I work closely with Elizabeth to promote the things she’s fighting for — like Medicare for All, Universal Child Care, a Green New Deal — and help get the word out about our grassroots movement.

So she and I end up spending a lot of time together — iced tea for EW, iced coffee for me — at organizing events answering questions from supporters, during press time with journalists, and backstage between interviews. A lot of people ask me what Elizabeth is like “behind the scenes.”

It’s not every day your boss runs into Ariana Grande backstage at an interview. ???? That’s me in the background, phone charger in hand (one day I’ll get an external charger).

Well, the truth is that the Elizabeth you see is the Elizabeth you get. Warm. Fearless. Determined. She’s a badass — a true role model to young women like myself. And she never stops fighting for game-changing reforms — like creating the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, or ending corruption in Washington — no matter how tough the fight gets.

That’s the kind of leader we need as president, but it’s going to take a grassroots movement to do it. Can we count on you to chip in for the first time to our campaign? $3, or whatever you can, will be a super big help.

Elizabeth’s message isn’t poll-tested or created from a focus group machine. And yeah, sometimes that means telling it like it is — whether it’s interrogating the Wells Fargo CEO or persisting despite Mitch McConnell’s best efforts.

But it’s impossible not to smile when you’re talking with Elizabeth. Ask her a question at an organizing event or an interview — about her Ultra-Millionaire Tax, about her grandkids, about this campaign — and she’ll light up the whole room.

Elizabeth’s going to keep fighting her heart out. But she can’t do it alone. We’ve got to get organized and keep growing our grassroots movement — chip in $3 now.
