I just got off the Senate floor, where I spoke in honor of the 7th anniversary of the signing of the Affordable Care Act. I talked about what I believe matters in this debate:
The inspiring and often heartbreaking stories of those who rely on the Affordable Care Act, some of which I was honored to share today. The fact that premiums will rise dramatically, particularly for seniors, and that 24 million fewer Americans will have health insurance if the GOP plan passes. The idea that healthcare is a fundamental right and a promise we should make to ALL Americans — not a privilege reserved for a wealthy few.
Soon, the House will vote on the GOP’s catastrophic plan to repeal the ACA. The vote is expected to be very close and could go either way. Your voice could be the difference between victory or defeat, which is why I’m asking:
Ultimately, I believe this bill is about our morals. The plan the House is voting on is a values statement and it is not a good one.
The only thing that gets healthier are the insurance companies’ bottom line at the direct expense of you and your loved ones. If it passes, you and countless others will be at risk of losing your health insurance or facing higher premiums. That is what is at stake right now.
We need you to make your voice heard. Sign this petition, make calls, and take action as you can. It will make a difference in this fight. Thanks for everything you do.
Fight on,
Kamala
